A new laser-based technology may make brain tumor surgery much more accurate, allowing surgeons to tell cancer tissue from normal brain at the microscopic level while they are operating, and avoid leaving behind cells that could spawn a new tumor.

Scientists Develop Nano-Sized Form of Aspirin

Scientists are reporting development of a new form of aspirin — taken daily by about 60 million people in the United States alone to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke — that could extend aspirin’s benefits to people who may not respond to the drug. Their advance toward coping with “aspirin resistance” appears in the journal ACS Nano.

Researchers Partner to Develop State-of-The-Art Device for Detecting Neural Activity

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), the Allen Institute for Brain Science, the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, the Wellcome Trust, and UCL (University College London) are announcing a $5.5 million (4.2 million Euro) collaboration to develop and manufacture a state-of-the-art device for detecting neural activity in animal brains.

New Method to Derive Band Offset Using Laser-Induced Current in Nanowire Device

Researchers at the Xiamen University in China and the University of Jyväskylä in Finland have characterized a series of stable 1.5 nm metal nanoclusters containing 44 metal atoms, stabilized by 30 organic thiol molecules on the surface.

Self-Powered Nanoparticles Target Newly Formed Microcracks in Bones

A novel method for finding and delivering healing drugs to newly formed microcracks in bones has been invented by a team of chemists and bioengineers at Penn State and Boston University. The method involves the targeted delivery of the drugs, directly to the cracks, on the backs of tiny self-powered nanoparticles.
