AEROTECH Introduces Low-Profile Open XY Linear Motor Stages for High Dynamic, Quasi-Static Applications

Aerotech has introduced a series of integrated open-frame stages with precise geometric performance and micrometer-level straightness. The new PlanarDLA stages include high precision roller bearings, precision machined surfaces and non-contact linear motors that drive through the axes’ center of stiffness. These features result in straightness to ±0.5µm and flatness to ±1.25µm.

Through X-ray crystallography, they solved the molecular structure of prothrombin, an important blood-clotting protein, revealing an unexpected, flexible role for a "linker" region that may be the key to developing better life-saving drugs.

PETA Funds Development of in vitro Toxicity Test for Exposure to Nanomaterials

Laser-Based Phase-Contrast X-Ray Tomography Captures Images of 3D Ultrafine Structures of a Fly

An innovative X-ray source is now showing what it can do. Researchers at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Garching, the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich and the Technical University Munich have captured images of three-dimensional ultrafine structures of a fly measuring just a few millimetres using X-rays generated with the help of a laser.

Inspired by their mode of action, scientists from the CNRS and Université de Strasbourg have designed a "chemical virus" that can cross the double lipid layer that surrounds cells, and then disintegrate in the intracellular medium in order to release active compounds.
