Smithers Apex, in association with the Graphene Stakeholders Association, is pleased to announce the first Graphene World Summit, taking place September 15-16, 2014 in Berkeley, California. This inaugural event will focus on bringing together the scientific and business communities for technical collaboration, scientific exchange, and the successful development and commercialization of graphene and potentially other 2-D materials.

Lightwave Logic Starts Production of Multi Integrated Nanophotonic Transceiver Prototype

Lightwave Logic, Inc., a technology company focused on the development of Next Generation Photonic Devices and Non-Linear Optical Polymer Materials Systems for applications in high speed fiber-optic data communications and optical computing, announced today that it has begun the process of manufacturing its advanced design Silicon Organic Hybrid Transceiver prototype and has released the completed chip design to OpSIS Inc., who will be producing initial silicon wafers. Delivery of the wafers is expected in early summer.

Light Can Trigger Coordinated, Wavelike Motions of Atoms in Atom-Thin Crystal Layers

Light can trigger coordinated, wavelike motions of atoms in atom-thin layers of crystal, scientists have shown. The waves, called phonon polaritons, are far shorter than light waves and can be "tuned" to particular frequencies and amplitudes by varying the number of layers of crystal, they report in the early online edition of Science March 7.

Ensysce Biosciences Inc. announced today that the U.S. Patent Office has issued a Notice of Allowance for U.S. Patent Application No. 13/175,314: SINGLE-WALLED CARBON NANOTUBE/SIRNA COMPLEXES AND METHODS RELATED THERETO. The application has claims covering methods of delivering single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) complexes with siRNA for therapeutic applications.

When a piece of gift-wrapping tape sticks to itself, it's frustrating, but when small parts in a microgear or micromotor stick together, an electronic device may not work well, if at all. Scientists now report in the journal ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces that rough zinc oxide coatings can prevent tiny silicon parts from adhering to each other.
