Scientists Build Complex Self-Assembling DNA Cages

Move over, nanotechnologists, and make room for the biggest of the small. Scientists at the Harvard's Wyss Institute have built a set of self-assembling DNA cages one-tenth as wide as a bacterium. The structures are some of the largest and most complex structures ever constructed solely from DNA, they report today's online edition of Science.

Random Twitching of Microparticles in Fluid and Price Developments on the Financial Market Have Same Underlying Mechanism

When scientists observe minute particles like nanoparticles or bacteria in fluid under a microscope, they don't see a motionless image. What they do see are particles making the tiniest irregular twitches not unlike the nervous ups-and-downs of market prices and exchange rates. These two forms of random twitching – microparticles in fluid and price developments on the financial market – are not just similar at first sight as a Japanese-Swiss team has now demonstrated. The underlying mechanism is the same too.

Significant Achievements Seen After Declaring Nanotechnology as National Priority in Israel

According to INNI (Israel National Nanotechnology Initiative) statistics, gathered towards NanoIsrael 2014, the 4th international conference & exhibition, the number of junior scientists in the field (including post-doctorates) is 220, the number of doctoral students is about 750 and the number of masters students is more than 850. In the past three years over 7,500 scientific papers have been published where 1500 of which resulted from collaboration between the universities.
