SUNY’s CNSE to Play Leading Role in SEMICON West 2013 and Intersolar North America 2013 Conferences

Demonstrating the impact of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s innovation-driven strategy that is positioning New York as a global leader in two critical 21st century industries, SUNY’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) announced today that it will play a leading role in this year’s SEMICON West 2013 and Intersolar North America 2013 conferences, spearheading a series of presentations and workshops that will highlight the ongoing progress of the Global 450mm Consortium (G450C) and U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium (PVMC), both headquartered at CNSE.

Evidence is mounting that the development and spread of cancer, long attributed to gene expression and chemical signaling gone awry, involves a biomechanical component as well. Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) have added to this body of evidence by demonstrating that the malignant activity of a critical cellular protein system can arise from what essentially are protein traffic jams.

Sorrento and IGDRASOL to Present Nanomedicine Platform Updates at 4th International Nanomedicine Conference

Sorrento Therapeutics, Inc. (Sorrento) and IGDRASOL announced today that the companies will present Phase III interim data analysis of Cynviloq in metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients showing significantly improved overall response rate (ORR) compared to generic paclitaxel as well as updates of their nanomedicine platform, which is being developed for multiple cancer indications in late-stage clinical trials, at the 4th International Nanomedicine Conference in Sydney Australia (July 1st - 3rd, 2013).

Positive Results from Tekmira's Lipid Nanoparticle Technology-Enabled ALN-TTR02 Phase II Trial for ATTR

Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corporation, a leading developer of RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutics, today reported that Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. presented positive results from its Phase II clinical trial with ALN-TTR02, an RNAi therapeutic targeting transthyretin (TTR) for the treatment of TTR-mediated amyloidosis (ATTR), which is enabled by Tekmira's lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technology.

Gigaphoton Reports Successful Continuous Operation of EUV Lithography Scanner LPP Light Source

Gigaphoton, Inc. a major lithography light source manufacturer, announced today that it has successfully achieved 2 hour continuous operation of its laser-produced plasma (LPP) light source for EUV lithography scanners. This milestone was confirmed using a prototype LPP system which generates EUV light by irradiating Tin (Sn) Droplets with a solid-state pre-pulse laser and a CO2 main pulse laser.

NAS Award to Develop Inkjet-Printed, Nanoparticle-Based Test Strips for Testing Drinking Water

Today the National Academy of Sciences announced a three-year, $271,930 grant to chemist Vincent Rotello at the University of Massachusetts Amherst to develop, test and deploy new, sensitive, reliable and affordable inkjet-printed, nanoparticle-based test strips for detecting disease-causing bacteria in drinking water, with researchers at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan.
