PI Ultrasonic Sensors for Reliable Flow Measurement and Bubble Detection
This video shows the working principle of the advanced ultrasonic sensors from Physik Instrumente (PI). Developed for flow measurement and bubble detection, the PI ultrasonic sensors are maintenance-free and have high-operating frequencies of equal to several 100 kHz: An oscillating piezoelectric annular disk produces powerful, high-frequency ultrasonic oscillations.
The medium reflects oscillations that are detected by a piezo ceramic, which, in turn, changes the mechanical oscillation back into electric signals. It is therefore possible to apply the Doppler Effect to measure flow speeds, or to detect impurities or bubbles in the liquid by means of irregularities in the reflected image - for dialysis and transfusion pumps, for instance.
