PI’s Kinematic Carrying Platform for X-ray Spectrometers
In this video, Dr. Markus Simon, head of beamline instrumentation group at PI miCos, explains the structure and working of a special system set-up that for synchrotron X-ray spectroscopy. The system utilizes products from the field of hexapod technology and can be used to perform a range of tasks such as material testing.
The mechanical base for the X-ray spectrometer essentially consists of two hexapods and a vacuum chamber. The final product will be used at a beam line at the synchrotron radiation source such as particle accelerator. In the case of the beamline, the radiation created in certain parts of a storage ring is used to carry out different experiments in different test setups.
The incident synchrotron of x-ray radiation is focused on to the X-ray lens and sample, which, in turn, emits light in the X-ray range. The spectrometer examines the light according wavelength and intensity, giving information on the sample’s material composition. The setup is used in the spectroscopic analysis of material samples such as ultra thin layers for the semiconductor industry and in medical research for examining highly diluted biological samples.
