NEXLINE® High-Load Walking Drives from PI

This video provides an overview of the PI Nexline® range of piezo stepping drives from Physik Instrumente (PI). The piezo stepping drives are essential components and have a number of piezo actuators that are preloaded against a guided runner. These piezo actuators carry out a stepping motion during operation that causes a forward feed of the runner. They can be operated to perform very small stepping and feed motions, thus making it possible to achieve a high motion resolution of far below one nanometer. Piezo stepping drives do not need any mechanical components, for example, gearhead or coupling which causes backlash and friction and would significantly restrict the reliability and precision of high-resolution motor-spindle-based drive systems.

The Nexline® piezo stepping drives feature particularly high forces and stiffnesses at feed forces of several 100 N. They can dynamically compensate oscillations in the range of a few micrometers with nanometer resolution, and are designed for higher positioning and holding forces of up to 800 N. They are capable of working at lower velocities.
